What is the Political Courage Test?

Washington Congressional Election 2018 Political Courage Test

Pro-choice Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
I believe in a single-payer universal healthcare system where women's reproductive health and education is covered under a Medicare for all expansion.
Yes In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
Yes In order to balance the budget, do you support reducing defense spending?
There are many sectors of our economy that are absorbing all of your countries wealth. Our military is one of those entities. With an estimated 66% of the Military budget spent on "Defense Contractors," we have come to a point where we don't even know where our Military spending is going. If we cut that 66% off the budget, we could have tuition free college, mass investment in public housing to end homelessness, and much more.
Yes Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
To go a bit further, I support public financing of elections. We need our voting system to be designed in a way that allows EVERY voter to have EQUAL power in the political process. Our current system is so reliant on private funding that candidates spend most of their time talking with big donors as opposed to talking to the people of the community they are representing. Inequality is bred into the system because money is allegedly the most important aspect of a winning campaign and this gives wealthy corporations an unparalleled advantage.
Yes Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
No Do you support lowering corporate taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
Corporations used to account for more than 30% of our Federal Revenue and now account for less than 10%. This loss in tax revenue has stifled public sector growth which led to the quality loss in our healthcare outcomes, education outcomes, banking regulations, policing and criminal justice system and much more. Taxes are not the enemy, it is how we use our taxes that makes a sustainable and strong country. We need to restore taxes on corporations and use that money to start taking care of our people and strengthen our welfare state.
Yes Do you support requiring states to adopt federal education standards?
The future of warfare is not in the military, it is in economics. In this new age of economic warfare the most intelligent will be the ones to succeed. We need a strong federal educational standard that allows our people to be as educated as possible to face the coming economic and environmental challenges ahead. Not only are the economic challenges going to cripple our future, but so will our environment if we don't have an educated workforce that understands how to combat the dangerous natural disasters coming our way.
Yes Do you support government funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, thermal)?
Yes Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions?
I support a strong carbon tax, and a tax on all greenhouse emitting gases. Republicans always say, "you tax the things you want to see a lower investment in." There cannot be a better example of this than with greenhouse emissions. America has already polluted the world to the point of no return, now we must learn to manage the existing climate we have. A carbon tax is a subtle yet strong way of telling our industries that our society is due for a change in direction.
Yes Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
What people don't talk about enough is the fact that even responsible gun owners are for comprehensive gun control legislation. Whenever the subject of guns is discussed in our Corporate Media, they always pitch the argument as gun owners versus everyone else. This is simply not the case. Responsible gun owners do not want to see guns get into the hands of bad people. They understand how powerful and dangerous guns can be. We need all peoples to come together and show that this is not a divisive issue, it is an American issue.
No Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare")?
I am for a single-payer universal healthcare program. We can do this by expanding Medicare to all. I do not support Obamacare as a long-term solution.
No Do you support the construction of a wall along the Mexican border?
No Do you support requiring immigrants who are unlawfully present to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
We are for a comprehensive and simple immigration system. We believe in 3-5 year living contracts awarding citizenship to those who apply, live here for 3-5 years, and don't commit any serious crimes. These contracts should be awarded to any who apply (with basic background checks given) including illegals, dreamers, etc.
Yes Do you support the legalization of marijuana for recreational purposes?
I live in Washington State where marijuana is one of the fastest and healthiest growing industries bringing in hundreds of millions of dollars in tax revenue. This has allowed our state to strengthen it's welfare systems, infrastructure and much more.
No Should the United States use military force in order to prevent governments hostile to the U.S. from possessing a nuclear weapon?
No Do you support increased American intervention in Middle Eastern conflicts beyond air support?
We simply need to withdraw our troops from all foreign countries. We have no military enemies anymore. Our soldiers are being used as corporate gun-men who are using force to push corporate agendas. This is un-American and needs to stop. Our soldiers are not tools for the rich to use to get their way.
First, universal single-payer healthcare system. We simply need to relieve Americans of the burden of health insurance and allow families the right to their health. Second, tuition-free public colleges and universities and allow ALL Americans a chance to learn whatever they want. Give people the right to their future. Third, massive investment in low-income and public housing to eliminate homelessness and create a strong form of rent control. If we don't do something about our housing crisis there will be another bubble and another collapse similar to 2008, although this one will be more catastrophic.
